A no-obligation conversation about your space.
Prestige Railings & Stairs designs and manufactures custom railings in Calgary for interiors, covering stair, landing and loft railings in wood, glass and metal. Incorporated in 1989, we provide 3D renderings, mill wood components in our shop, specify sourced glass and metal components, coordinate professional installation, and complete a quality check 24 hours after completion.
Calgary custom railings should suit the house they go into rather than a catalogue page. We mill wood components in our own Calgary shop, specify glass and metal to the job, and build for interiors only (we do not provide exterior, deck, balcony, patio, or outdoor work).
A railing is the one part of a staircase you touch every day, and the part that decides whether a stairwell feels open or boxed in.
Interior railings in Calgary homes tend to go in three areas, and we build for all of them. Stair railings run the flight itself, following the rise and turning at the landings. Landing railings hold the edge where the stairs arrive on an upper floor. Loft and mezzanine railings run along an open-to-below edge, where the priority is usually keeping sightlines through to the level underneath.
Every indoor railing we build is made for interiors, in wood, glass, metal, or a combination. The materials section below covers what that means in practice.
Three materials, and the choice usually comes down to how much of the view you want to keep and how the railing needs to sit with the rest of your millwork.
We mill wood railing components in our Calgary shop. Poplar, Maple, Red Oak, White Oak, Walnut and Fir are what we work in most often, and we can source any species on request. Poplar and similar paint-grade options suit painted work. Wood railings are delivered ready for your painter or stainer, so the final colour is matched to your existing trim on site rather than guessed at in a shop. (Please note we do not provide painting, staining, or other finishing services.)
Glass is specified by thickness for the application: 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, or 20mm. The right thickness depends on the span, how the panel is supported, and where it sits in the house. Your glass is fabricated to that specification by a local supplier.
We offer both framed and frameless options. Frameless installations use standoffs, specialized fittings anchored into the side of the structure, leaving the glass edges free of a frame. Framed installations use a shoe base, which is a continuous channel along the bottom of the glass panel.
All metal components are sourced from external suppliers and made to our specifications; we do not perform any metal fabrication or welding in-house. Horizontal railings are a standard offering and are done often. Finishes are available on select spindle profiles, including Raven Black (also called Satin Black), Carbide Black (also called Textured Black), Gun Metal Grey, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Brushed Chrome, Gold, Stainless Steel, and Spindle Bronze. Aluminum components may be used depending on the job, also sourced from our external suppliers.
Plenty of the railings we build aren’t one material at all. A wood top rail over metal balusters is a common request in traditional homes, and glass panels finished with a wood cap or shoe base suit an open-concept space where a bare glass edge would feel unfinished.
Combining materials lets a railing carry the warmth of wood where your hand lands and the openness of glass or the slimness of metal everywhere else. If you’re not sure which combination suits your stairwell, it’s an easy conversation to have with the drawings in front of you.
We start in your home or at our Calgary or Edmonton showroom, take measurements on site, and produce 3D renderings so you can see the railing in your space before anything is ordered or cut.
Species, material and combination are settled here, along with glass thickness where glass is involved. This is also where we check the design against current building codes before anything is built. (Please note that any required engineering drawings and approvals are the responsibility of the customer or contractor, as we do not provide in-house engineering.)
Wood components are milled and assembled in our own Calgary shop. Metal and glass are specified to the job and fabricated by our external suppliers, then brought together with the wood before installation. As a railing manufacturer working to order rather than from stock, we typically need about three weeks notice to manufacture your components and book an installation date, with specifications and pricing confirmed before that window opens.
Fitted on site by installers trained in our facility. Wood components are handed over ready for your painter (we do not provide painting, staining, or finishing services).
Our responsibility doesn’t end when the crew packs up. Within 24 hours of finishing your installation, a quality control team comes back to the site and goes over the work.
If something needs attention, small repairs are handled on the spot. Anything larger is scheduled as a return visit rather than left with you to chase down.
Every project is backed by a one-year guarantee covering both labour and materials. We run paperless, with a complete audit trail and full documentation of the job, so there’s a record of what was specified and what was installed.
Wood components are milled and assembled in Calgary. Glass and metal are specified to your job and fabricated by external suppliers, and one company stays answerable for how the finished railing goes together.
Visit our showroom in Calgary or Edmonton to look at materials in person and review 3D renderings before anything is ordered.
Most of the installers who fit your railing trained in our own facility, so the same standard follows the work from the shop to your home.
One-year guarantee covering labour and materials behind every project. We have been building stair railings since 1989.

Areas
We design and manufacture custom interior railings with showrooms in two locations. Manufacturing happens in our Calgary facility, and we serve Calgary and surrounding areas including Canmore, as well as Edmonton and surrounding areas from our Edmonton showroom. We have also completed past projects as far out as Fort McMurray.
Yes. We work with homeowners renovating an existing house and with home builders on new construction, to the same specifications either way.
Yes. You choose the material, the species and the combination, and the railing is built to your opening rather than to a stock size. Wood components arrive ready for finishing, so your painter matches the colour to the trim already in your home. Sourced metal components are available in pre-finished options for select spindle profiles.
Yes, and it’s common. A wood top rail over metal balusters, or glass panels with a wood cap or shoe, are both regular requests.
Wood, glass, and metal, individually or combined. Wood components are milled in our Calgary shop. Glass is fabricated by a local supplier in specified thicknesses: 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, or 20mm. Metal components are sourced from external suppliers and made to our specifications.
Aluminum components may be used depending on the job, sourced from external suppliers to our specifications.
For ornate designs, scrollwork, or hand-forged iron, we do not fabricate these in-house, but we may look to source them depending on your project’s requirements.
No. We do not provide painting, staining, flooring, carpeting, or tiling. We hand over your wood components ready for finishing so your painter can match the final colour on site to the trim already in your home.
No. We do not perform demolition, removal, or disposal of old stairs and railings; this is the responsibility of the homeowner or contractor. We also do not offer refinishing, sanding, re-treading, or carpet-runner removal for existing stairs.
Consultation and design time varies with the project. Once specifications and pricing are confirmed, we typically need about three weeks’ notice to manufacture your components and book an installation date.
From the first measurement to the check 24 hours after installation, one local company stays answerable for your railing. No handing you between a fabricator, a glass supplier and an installer, and no wondering who to call if something needs adjusting.
